The very popular slot game 88 Fortunes by Shuffle Master has undergone the Megaways treatment. Let’s see how this works out and what I think.
88 Fortunes now comes with 6 reels which can have 7 symbols per reel. It also features a bottom row with 4 symbols, which means you can have a total of 117649 ways active. But these number of symbols change during each spin. Which is what they call Megaways.
Winning combinations are removed and new symbols are added on top and on the bottom to create the option for another win. This can continue until no more wins occur.
Free spins feature
There are two ways to trigger the free spins feature.
You can get 4 or more scatter symbols from left to right on adjacent reels to trigger 8, 12 or 15 free spins respectively. These free spins will start with a x1 multiplier.
But as you might remember from the original game, you have a special pot on top. Wild symbols will be collected to fill this pot and at random the pot can close.
Instead of the jackpot game, now match 3 of the same babies to get one of the following:
- 10 free spins starting with a 6 times multiplier
- 12 free spins starting with a 4 times multiplier
- 15 free spins starting with a 2 times multiplier
During free spins, after each winning combination the multiplier will increase by one.
You can trigger more free spins during the free spins feature. But this seems to be hard to trigger.
Verdict
I loved 88 Fortunes and I think many players do. It is still popular and has had many varieties.
88 Fortunes Megaways is also a very nice game. It uses the Megaways which are very popular. But for the main part the game is a pretty standard Megaways slot game. A normal basic game and even a very standard free spins feature. The same as for instance Bonanza.
I do like the fact that they changed the pot on top to give you better free spins. I also believe it is much better to trigger the bonus like that. It gives more spins and it’s nice that the multiplier starts higher.
Overall I do like the game, but I like most Megaways games. 88 Fortunes Megaways doesn’t really add anything new, except a well-known brand name.
