And now Play’n Go has released a new game that also uses this theme. But this time they went with a pirate hunter theme in the form of Captain Glum.
The reels are set against a tropical island. With clouds covering parts of it, but maybe on that later.
During the base game you will find 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high. And it comes with connected paylines. So as long as symbols are connected to each other from left to right, starting on the first reel it counts as a winning combination.
Besides standard card symbols you will also find two different boats, a lady pirate and of course Captain Glum. There is also a wild always present on reels 2, 3 and/or 4, which is explained later. Scatter symbols, which are golden skulls appear on all reels.

Persistent Walking Wild
During all base spins there is a golden ship that moves around between reels 2, 3 and 4. This ship acts as a wild symbol and will move to a new spot during each spin.
Captain’s Due
When at least one scatter symbol appears on the reels, this feature might trigger at random.
The golden ship will move to a random scatter symbol and leave behind wild symbols and will turn the scatter it moves to wild when it reaches it. After this you are paid your winning combinations.
Free Spins Feature
3 or more scatter symbols will award the free spins feature. You are awarded with 10 free spins.
The clouds now open up and you will find two sides of a ship with cannons. The top is the pirate ship, the bottom Captain’s Glum ship.
Each spin cannons will fire at each other and might destroy parts of the ship, opening up more symbols on that reel. A reel can become 5 high during the free spins. The cannons take 1, 2 or 3 spins to reload and are able to shoot again.
When cannons fire they can also destroy each others ships on the reels. The red ships are Captain Glum’s and the green ships are the pirate ships. Each ship destroyed will give that party a point. If at the end of the free spins Captain Glum wins, you will go to a seperate screen and you pick 1 of 3 chests. This will reveal a multiplier of x2, x3 or x10, which is applied to the total win of all free spins.
Verdict
Play’n Go created a fun new slot game. The base game doesn’t bore because of the connected lines, the always present wild ship and also the chance for that Captain’s Due feature. And they also manages to make the free spins feature a lot of fun. It might not be original, I believe I have seen games that use two sided and if you win you get rewarded. But it’s done in a nice way.
I also think the game looks nice. It’s not dark or depressing, as pirate games sometimes are. It’s bright, colorful and also not that serious, which I like a lot.
Overall Captain Glum: Pirate Hunter is a good game and definitely worth a try.
