Hotline 2 was released by NetEnt in 2020 and is the sequel to the pretty popular Hotline, which was released back early 2018.
This new game keeps the 80’s Miami Vice theme and even uses the same characters. The game also kept the “hotzone” feature, but in a different way.
Hotline 2 uses 243 ways on 5 reels, 3 symbols high. Which can increase up to 1944 ways during the free spins feature.
Like the original Hotline 2 also uses a hotzone. The hotzone can be one, two or even three reels. The more reels you want activated the more you have to bet. But also the more reels you activate the higher the RTP of the game.
When a wild symbol lands in one or more of these activated reels, it will become an expanding wild and will cover the entire reel.
Getting 3 scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 will award 7 free spins.
When a wild symbol lands on reel 2, 3 and/or 4 during free spins that reel will increase by one symbol, increasing the total ways. After this it will also expand.
Reels 2, 3 and 4 can become a total of 6 symbols high. When one of these reels reaches it’s max height, you will be awarded with 2 extra free spins. After this, each time a wild symbol lands on an already full expanded reel, you will be awarded with 1 more free spin.
For a cost of 20, 40 or 60 times your bet you can buy a feature with 1, 2 or 3 hotzones activated.
Hotline was already a pretty cool game, but I think Hotline 2 is even better. Which doesn’t happen very often, the sequel being better.
Of course this is very personal, but I like the ways, I like the expanding wilds and I especially like the free spins feature with the increasing ways and expanding wilds.
It is also nice that you are able to buy the feature, although I don’d do this normally.
Hotline 2 does look and feel a lot like the original and some players might think too much. But I think it offers enough difference to become a new favorite for many players. And the game looks amazing and comes with maximum win of 5184 times your bet, which is also pretty high.
