Viking Runecraft Apocalypse Overview

Back in 2017 Play’n Go released a game called Viking Runecaft. A grid game that was an instant hit.

Now 6 years later this title received a follow-up called Viking Runecraft Apocalypse. Using a lot of the same mechanisms and bonuses, but all a bit different and maybe even upgraded.

The game uses a grid of 7 by 7 symbols and any combination of 5 or more of the same symbols in a cluster, count as a winning combination. Symbols in a cluster need to be connected vertically and/or horizontally.

This slot game also comes with cascading symbols. Meaning that winning combinations are removed from the grid and all symbols fall down, new symbols then fall on top creating the option for another win.

Besides all normal symbols there are also wild symbols, names Spirit Wilds, which only appear when winning combinations are removed. There are no scatter or bonus symbols.

Viking Runecraft Apocalypse comes with a maximum payout of 10.000 times your bet and is a medium to high volatile slot game.

Spirit Wilds and Gifts of the Gods

Each time you get a winning cluster the symbols are removed and it will leave behind a Spirit Wild.

Each Spirit Wild used in a winning combination will be collected to the right of the reels.

Once you collected 4 of them you will trigger a random Gifts of the Gods Feature.

• Odin’s Power – will add 3 adjacent wild symbols
• Freya’s Magic – will add 2, 3 or 4 pairs of wild symbols
• Thor’s Thunder – will add between 6 and 10 random wild symbols
• Heimdall’s Vision – will add 2, 3 or 4 pairs of diagonal wild symbols

Loki’s Mischief

On any non winning spin or cascade this feature may randomly trigger.

Between 5 and 8 random symbols will change into one and the same symbol.

Power of the Aesir

All winning symbols are collected into a meter on the left of the grid. Called the Runic Charge Meter. When you collected 35 winning symbols you will activate one of 4 random features.

• Trumpet’s Screech – transforms or destroys symbols around 3 random symbols
• Folkvang’s Force – upgrades 1 type of symbol
• Mjolnir’s Strike – destroys and transforms between 6 and 10 random symbols
• Heaven’s Spear – all weapon symbols are transformed into one and the same symbol

Aftershock

If you are within 5 symbols of triggering the free spins feature, this feature might trigger at random.

One and the same symbols are selected and then connected with all the same symbols in between.

Ragnarök Free Spins

If you manage to collect 65 winning symbols in the Runic Charge Meter, you will trigger the free spins feature.

During free spins all 4 Power of Aesir features will be triggered, one after the other.

All winning symbols collected will also increase an overall multiplier, which can go up to x10. This multiplier is then applied to the total winnings during free spins.

And lastly, all Spirit Wilds used are also collected, up to 20 of them. Which will be added to the grid at the end of all free spins.

Verdict

Play’n Go really released one of those classic grid games they are known for with Viking Runecraft Apocalypse. Collecting symbols, which will fill meters which will in turn award special features. And once these features go, they can keep going and trigger free spins, with even more features.

This is really what Play’n Go does best. And although the game is different, it really feels like Viking Runecraft’s sister slot.
