Pragmatic Play has released a new online slot game called Mermaid’s Treasure Trove.
As the title might suggest, an underwater theme with shells, treasure and fish and a mermaid next to the reels.
The game uses 7 reels that are each 7 symbols high and comes with a cluster pays mechanism. 5 or more of the same symbols that are horizontally and/or vertically connected, count as a winning combination. Winning combinations are removed from the reels and all remaining symbols fall down into the empty spots, while new symbols are added on top. This can keep giving continues wins within the same spin.
Besides low and high paying underwater themed symbols, you will also find scatter symbols on all reels. And there are also wilds, but these will be explained below and can’t land normally.

Features
Wild Multipliers
When a winning combination without a wild is removed, it will leave behind a wild symbol that starts with a x1 multiplier.
Each time a wild is used in a winning combination, the multiplier is increased by x1 and it will move to an adjacent empty spot after symbols are removed.
If more than one wild symbol is used in a winning combination, after winning symbols are removed, they merge together into one wild symbol with the combined multiplier.
(normal paying symbols can also come with a multiplier of between x5 and x100. If used, they are added to the wild multiplier value)
Free Spins Feature
3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 scatter symbols will award 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 free spins respectively.
During free spins, wild multiplier will stay on the reels between free spins and the multipliers don’t reset.
Each scatter symbol appearing during free spins will add 1 more free spin.
Bonus Buy
For 100 times your bet you can buy the free spins feature. For 400 times the bet you can buy the Super free spins feature, where wild multipliers start on x10.
Verdict
The bonuses used on Mermaid’s Treasure Trove are nothing new, in fact there are several games that uses these multiplier wild symbols. Like for instance Jammin’ Jars, a slot released a couple of years back that instantly became a hit because of the huge win potential. But there wilds didn’t merge.
Overall it’s a decent game with some fun features. But somehow it doesn’t make the biggest impact these days. It’s something that feels like a repeat. I am not sure what it is.
But I am guessing there are enough players out there that will enjoy this game. And overall, it’s not a bad game, not at all.
