Wild North Radiant Skies – Overview
All the way back in 2015, when there weren’t a lot of slot providers yet and almost every new release was an event, Play’n Go released a game called Wild North. A nice looking game with several bonus features. Now, more than 10 years later that game is receiving a follow-up with Wild North Radiant Skies.
The game uses the same beautiful theme as the original. Northern located animals, like think Canada.
You will find 5 reels that are each 4 symbols high and a total of 40 lines.
Besides low paying card symbols and medium to high paying animal symbols, you will also find wilds on all reels, which are lynxes it seems. There are no scatters on this game, but there are special tokens, which can appear on animal symbols and are collected when appearing.
Wild North Radiant Skies comes with a maximum payout of 2.000 times bet and is a low volatile slot game.
Features
Northern Lights Wheel
When one or more tokens are collected, at random the Northern Lights Wheel can trigger. The wheel will land on one of 5 different animals and each animal will award its own feature.
- Owl’s Wisdom – 3 re-spins – Owl symbols appear as two 2×2 or one 4×4 symbol big. During each spin a 2×2 Owl symbol may move to a new position or become a 4×4 symbol, a 4×4 symbol may change into two 2×2 symbols.
- Savage Bear – 3 re-spins – before each spin a random multiplier of up to x10 is revealed.
- Wolves in the Wild – 3 re-spins – Wolf symbols now act as wild symbols and also become sticky wilds. An extra re-spin is awarded when a new wolf symbol lands. Before spins start four sticky wild symbols are added to the reels.
- Wilderness Reindeer – 3 re-spins – Reindeer will expand and become wild during re-spins. An expanded wild moves one reel to the left after each spin. When a new Reindeer lands, they will also become an expanded wild. An extra re-spin is awarded each time a new reindeer lands. Before spins start a random expanded wild is added to the reels.
- Majestic Fox – You get a grid of 20 spots. Pick spots to reveal prizes or one of the above bonus features. When a bonus is revealed, it plays out and then you return to the picking of spots. The feature ends when you find the X. You can trigger more than one bonus during this feature.
Verdict
I was pretty surprised when I saw this title. Talk about a blast from the past. So I was hoping Play’n Go gave this game some love and pushed it 10 years forward.
Well, in my opinion, they didn’t. We basically received the same game, with some small changes. Sure, instead of getting 3 scatters, you now trigger the bonuses at random. And instead of 7 features, we now have 5. And instead of 1 spins, we get 3. But those are really the only changes and this just isn’t enough.
I’m guessing a lot of players that where already active back in 2015 have nostalgic feelings when they see this title. So did I. I absolutely love that time of games. Every game was new and exciting and not just another remake, clone or follow-up.
It’s a shame they treated a classic like Wild North like this. It would have been better just to leave it alone, keep it nostalgic.
This game is just too simple for me.
Let me know how you feel. Do you remember the time when the original was released? Did they give it a solid follow-up? Leave a comment below. You can find Wild North Radiant Skies at any trusted Play’n Go casino.
