Bamboo Ways – Overview
Last year Push Gaming released a game called Razor Ways, which fell into their “shark” series of slots. Now they are releasing Bamboo Ways, which is a lot like the earlier mentioned game, but with a Asian, panda theme.
The reels are set against a giant temple in the sky and for symbols you will find symbols like different animals, a panda and of course bamboo.
The game starts with 6 reels which are each 4 symbols high, which will give 729 ways. But these reels can increase giving up to 46.656 ways.
Besides low paying suits symbols and Asian themed symbols and animals, you will also find scatter symbols on all reels, which are Yin Yang symbols. Wild symbols, expanding wild symbols and bamboo mystery symbols also appear on all reels.

Expanding Reels
Bamboo Ways uses tumbles, or reactions. Which means that winning symbols are removed from the reels and new symbols are added on top. Each time a winning combination appears and the symbols are removed, the reels grow by 1 symbol, up to a maximum of 3 extra symbols per reel. A maximum of 6 symbols per reel can be active, awarding 46.556 ways. During the base game, on a new spin, they reset back to 3 symbols per reel.
Expanding wilds
Besides normal wilds, there are also expanding wilds. When they appear by either landing or being revealed by a mystery symbol, they cover the entire reel. Expanding wilds might come with a random multiplier of x2, x3 or x5.
Converter into Wild symbol
This symbol can appear normally or due to a mystery symbol. When it appears, it will pick one random normal paying symbol and change all instances of those symbols, on active rows, into wilds. The Converter into Wild symbol will also become wild. A maximum of two of these symbols can appear at the same time.
Bamboo Mystery Symbols
Mystery symbols can appear on all reels during the base game and during free spins. These symbols will reveal into a normal paying symbol, a wild symbol, an expanding wild symbol, a Converter into Wild symbol, an Expander symbol, which will expand the mystery symbol to cover all instances on a reel, or a Golden Bamboo symbol.
Golden Bamboo Feature
When Golden Bamboo symbols are revealed during the base game or during free spins, all these Gold Bamboo symbols will spin individually and reveal one of the following:
- Instant Prize – A cash reward of between x1 and x1000 times bet
- Multiplier – Comes with a multiplier of between x2 and x10 and all Instant Prize and Collector Symbols will be multiplied. After this the multiplier will re-spin to land on another symbol
- Collector – Collects all Instant Prize values and then all Instant Prize symbols are removed and will re-spin. The Collector Symbol will stay on the reels
- Converter – Will randomly pick a normal paying symbol and will change all instances of that symbol into a Golden Bamboo symbol
- Scatter
- Row Unlocker – will unlock an extra row of symbols and is then removed and spins again (only during bonus buy)
Free Spins Feature
3 or more bonus symbols will award the free spins feature. Depending how many scatters trigger the bonus, determines the number of free spins, the size of the reels and starting multiplier.
- 3 will award 6 free spins with reels being 3 symbol high and a x1 multiplier
- 4 will award 8 free spins with reels being 4 symbols high and a x2 multiplier and the lowest symbol removed
- 5 will award 10 free spins with reels being 5 symbols high and a x3 multiplier and the lowest two symbols removed
- 6 will award 10 free spins with reels being 6 symbols high and a x5 multiplier and the lowest three symbols removed
During free spins each scatter is collected into meters on the right. Each time you collected 4 of them, they will add 3 more free spins, unlock an extra row of symbols and remove the lowest paying symbol during the remaining spins. There are 4 levels in total to unlock all rows and remove all suits symbols.
Special extra free spins symbols can also appear, adding between 1 and 3 extra free spins.
Bonus Buy
Bamboo Ways comes with several bonus buy options:
- 18 times bet will buy 8 guaranteed Golden Bamboo symbols
- 120 times bet will buy 18 guaranteed Golden Bamboo symbols
- 80 times bet will buy 3 scatter symbols (triggering free spins)
- 400 times bet will buy a random number of scatter symbols (triggering free spins)
Verdict
Like I said in the beginning, Bamboo Ways is almost the exact same game as Razor Ways. With only small differences.
And just like Razor Ways, Bamboo Ways comes with a lot of features. Which might seem a bit overwhelming but when playing, isn’t that hard to understand.
Both the base game and the free spins features keep the game interesting and there is enough to look out for.
Of course the game isn’t really new, it’s more of a re-skin. And because I really liked Razor Ways, I also really like Bamboo Ways.
I think it’s an excellent slot with a lot of exciting features and bonuses and high win potential. And I also think the game looks great.
