Hot Potato! Overview
Thunderkick released a new online slot game called Hot Potato!.
It seems the game mixes the classic game Hot Potato with a New York theme. But to be honest, I just noticed this when I read it somewhere else. For me it’s more like a cooking theme in general.
The reels are set against a New York street during the base game and in a kitchen during free spins.
The game uses a grid of 7 reels that are each 7 symbols high and comes with cluster pays. 5 or more of the same symbols, connected horizontally and/or vertically, count as a winning combination. Winning symbols are removed from the reels, all remaining symbols fall down into empty spots and new symbols fall on top, creating the option for another win.
Besides all sorts of food items as symbols, you will also find a chef, which is the highest paying symbol. Then there are Hot symbols, which are the scatter symbols and can appear on all reels. The game also features wilds, but these are explained below, because they only appear due to a feature.
Hot Potato! comes with a maximum payout of 10.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.

Exploding Wild and Multiplier Grid
Each winning combination is removed and will leave behind a potato, which counts as a wild symbol. This wild symbol will explode and removes all symbols in a 3×3 size. After this the exploded spots will become multipliers. Each position in a Multiplier Grid starts with x2. Any new explosions happening on the same spots will double the multipliers, up to a maximum of x128.
Any wins on these spots are multiplied by the multipliers. Multipliers are added together when more than one is used on a winning combination.
All multiplier are removed after no more winning combinations or potatoes appear.
Free Spins Feature
3 or more scatter symbols during the base game will award 10 free spins.
During free spins the multipliers never reset and can only increase, up to a maximum of x128.
3 or more scatters during free spins will add 10 more free spins.
Bonus Buy
Some casinos offer the option to buy the free spins feature for 100 times your bet.
Verdict
Hot Potato! might not be a totally new game, in fact it feels a lot like Sugar Rush from Pragmatic Play. But it works very well and is a highly enjoyable game.
The game looks nice, as we expect from Thunderkick and especially the free spins can award some great wins.
