The mining theme has been very popular as a theme for online slot games for years. Somehow players love digging for gold or jewels deep into a mine. That’s why Pragmatic Play probably picked this theme for their latest slot release Bomb Bonanza.
The reels are set against an old Western town with a sheriff next to the reels holding a stick of dynamite. The symbols are standard card symbols together with pick axes, bags of gold and again the sheriff.
All normal symbols ca appear stacked on all reels.
The game also features normal wild symbols on all reels, which are boms. But it also features special wild symbols, which I will explain below. A free spins symbol appears on reels 1, 3 and 5 only.
Bomb Bonanza uses 5 reels that are 5 symbols high and comes with 50 lines.
This new game comes with a maximum payout of 2.000 times your bet. Which seems to be a bit low.

Exploding Wilds
During any base spin you can also land one or more special wild symbols. These are green bombs.
These wild symbols will expand to 2×2, 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 big in one direction, which is up, down, left or right.
Free Spins Feature
Get all 3 free spins symbols to trigger 6 free spins.
During free spins there is a meter on the right of the reels. Now special gold nugget symbols may appear on the reels. These are then collected and added to the meter.
The meter starts on level 1 and wild symbols will not expand. You will move to the next level when you collected enough nuggets and after this wild symbols will expand, just like I mentioned above.
- Level 2 – After collecting 5 golden nuggets – Wilds now expand to 2×2 and will add 4 more free spins
- Level 3 – After collecting 5 more golden nuggets – Wilds now expand to 3×3 and will add 2 more free spins
- Level 4 – After collecting 5 more golden nuggets – Wilds now expand to 4×4 and will add 2 more free spins
- Level 5 – After collecting 3 more golden nuggets – Wilds now expand to 5×5 and will add 1 more free spin
Verdict
As with most Pragmatic Play slots, the game looks nice. Even though I don’t think the mining theme is very original, it works with the features.
The exploding wild symbols during the base game seem to almost never hit. I think I saw them once with over 200 spins. It might be really bad luck, but somehow that feature was nothing exciting for me.
The free spins feature is nice and during this feature the special wild symbols seem to hit a lot more often. But I think you do need to move up a couple of levels to really get some juicy wins.
One thing that does seem strange to me is the maximum payout of 2.000 times bet. Normally the standard for Pragmatic Play is 5.000 times. And it seems this game could benefit from that. But maybe the game is just not that volatile now.
Overall it’s a fine game. Maybe not that spectacular or even that unique, but overall just fine.
