Book of Ra is probably the first slot game to use the, well hence the name, Book of mechanism of expanding symbols during free spins. And this original game from Novomatic already has several versions available. But now there is another one with the long name, Cash Connection Golden Book of Ra.
The game was already available a several online casinos, but now I noticed it at even more casino, so therefore here is my review.
This new Book of Ra version comes with the same theme as all the others. An Egyptian theme. And it keeps most of the same symbols.
You will find 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high and a total of 10 lines.
Besides low paying card symbols you will also find medium to high paying Egyptian themed symbols, including the famous explorer, which is the highest paying symbol. On this game you will not find the well-known books as symbols. Wild are normal wild symbols and instead of scatters you will find balls that come with either cash values or free spins. And are needed to trigger the bonus.

Getting 6 or more balls anywhere on screen will trigger the Hold & Spin feature. All balls are held and you receive 3 re-spins where only blank spots or balls can appear. Re-spins keep happening until you run out of spins or fill the entire reels with balls, which will award the Grand Jackpot.
Balls can have cash values, free spins or one of the other three jackpots, which are also spins or a cash amount.

Free Spins Feature
Before free spins start one random symbol (not wild) is picked as special expanding symbol during free spins.
This symbol will expand to cover the entire reels and pays on any reel, not just starting from reel 1.
During free spins the famous Book symbols can now appear, which counts as a wild and a scatter. Getting 3 or more book symbols during free spins will add another 10 free spins.
Verdict
I really like how Novomatic uses the Hold & Spin feature on this game. It’s not just cash rewards, but you can also win the classic free spins feature. Sometimes both at the same time.
And you can now win a lot of free spins also. Which is always nice.
It maybe nothing groundbreaking, but I really enjoy this game.
