Crabby’s Gold – Overview
Play’n Go has released a new online slot game called Crabby’s Gold.
Crabby seems to refer to a crab because this is a pirate themed slot. The reels are set on a tropical beach with a big pirate ship in the background. It all comes with a very cartoon-like style.
The game uses 6 reels which are each 4 symbols high and uses 4096 ways instead of paylines.
Besides low paying card symbols and medium to high paying pirate symbols there also an array of other symbols. First there are wild symbols, which can appear on all reels, except the first reel and can also be upgraded, more on that below. Then we have rum bottles which are collected to upgrade the wilds symbols. And lastly we have coin symbols on all reels and pouch symbols on reels 1 and 6. More on that below.
Crabby’s Gold comes with a huge maximum payout of 70.000 times your bet but is still a medium volatile game.
Features
Wilds
Each Rum Bottle that appears is collected into a meter on the bottom right of the reels. Each time you collect 6 of them, you will unlock a new stage, which will add a new special wild to the reels. All the wilds stay active, so all types can land once you have activated them.
- Stage 1 – normal wild
- Stage 2 – multiplier wild with x2, x3, x5 or x5
- Stage 3 – expanding wild and multiplier expanding wild with values of x1, x2, x3, x4 or x5
- Stage 4 – expanding sticky wild and multiplier expanding sticky wild with values of x1, x2, x3, x4 or x5 and 3 re-spins when landed
- Stage 5 – expanding walking wild that moves one reel to the left after each spin, until it walks of the reels
- Stage 6 – mega wild of 2×2 symbols big
Coin Collect
Pouch symbols can land on reel 1 and 6. And whenever one or both land, they will collect all values from any coins on the screen. Coins come with a value of between 0,5 and 25 times bet.
Hold’n Spin
Each time coins aren’t collected into a pouch, as explained above, they are added to a treasure chest. This chest will activate at random when coins are collected and will trigger the Hold’n Spin bonus.
During these spins only coins appear and you will receive 3 re-spins. Each time a new coin lands, the re-spins are reset. After you run out of spins all coins will reveal a value of between x1 and x30 times bet. After this you also get the option to gamble your win, double or nothing.
Verdict
Crabby’s Gold come with a lot of features, but to be honest, nothing we haven’t seen before.
The Coin Collect gets boring very fast, because coins aren’t worth a lot.
The wild symbols are a nice added touch and getting a couple of the upgraded ones at the same time can award some huge wins.
Lastly we have the Hold & Spin feature. Of course something we have seen a lot before. But they added the double or nothing feature, which can be done up to 4 times, which of course can, if you are lucky, award huge. Which is probably the 70.000 times bet number?
Overall I just think the game is a bit too similar to other games, uses a theme that’s also not that interesting and besides the huge maximum win just doesn’t add anything special for me.
