Pragmatic Play released a new slot game called Shield of Sparta.
The Spartan theme has been done pretty often by several providers. Maybe one of the most famous ones is 300 Shields, or the later released 300 Shields Extreme.
It’s a theme that always looks and feels the same. Very reminiscent of the movie 300.
The game uses 5 reels, each 3 symbols high and comes with 20 lines.
Besides standard card symbols and Spartan themed symbols, which can all appear stacked. You will also find wild symbols on all reels and golden shields that act as the scatter symbol.

Bonus Symbols
The game features two types of bonus symbols. Normal symbols and magnetic symbols. The magnetic symbols will have a small lightning symbol in the corner. The magnetic bonus symbols only matter during free spins.
Respin
When you get 2 bonus symbols, the bonus symbols are held and all other symbols respin to try to get more bonus symbols.
Free Spins Feature
Landing 3, 4 or 5 bonus symbols, normal and/or magnetic, will award 10, 15 and 20 free spins respectively.
The spots that had the bonus symbols will get a bronze frame around it. Whenever a new bonus symbol lands on the same spot, the frame is upgraded to silver and ultimately golden.
Spots that had a magnetic symbol will become magnetic, which will nudge any bonus symbol landing adjacent to the frame onto the frame.
If a frame is not magnetic but a magnetic bonus symbol lands on that spot, it will become magnetic.
After the free spins bonus each frame will reveal a multiplier between x1 and x20, depending on how upgraded the frame is. Then all multiplier are added together and your total win from the free spins feature is then multiplied by that number.
3, 4 or 5 bonus symbols during free spins will add 10, 15 and 20 extra free spins respectively.
Verdict
The theme is what it is, it’s fine and it looks nice, but of course it’s nothing new.
Then the game. The base game is pretty basic, except for those two bonus symbols that stick and award a respin.
The free spins feature is pretty nice. I like how it all works and how it can multiply some nice winnings with a big number. But there is also a negative and that’s the maximum payout. Most Pragmatic Play slots come with 5.000 times bet. And of course some even more. But somehow they gave this game only 3.000 times bet. And I don’t know why?
Don’t get me wrong, 3.000 times your bet is a great win. And of course the maximum win only happens like 1 in several million spins. But still I wonder why it wouldn’t just received the 5.000 times minimum.
