Phoenix Graveyard Overview
ELK Studios is always able to create some unique slot games, with interesting features and bonuses that we don’t see combined very often. And most of the times they come with a pretty bright looking game. That’s not the case for Phoenix Graveyard.
This new slot game still offers a lot of great features that all work very well together, but this time they have chosen a very dark theme. The title says it all. A graveyard and phoenixes. Bit of a strange combination since the phoenix always rises from its own ashes, but somehow it also works.
The game is played against a very dark graveyard setting and even the symbols look sombre, including the grim reaper to top it all off.
Phoenix Graveyard is played on 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high. Giving the basic reels 243 ways to win. But no worries, this game can give up to 1 million ways in total, more on that later.
The game features standard card symbols, some characters, a phoenix wild symbol and also a grim reaper wild symbol. Together with bonus symbols on all reels.
The maximum win on Phoenix Graveyard is 10.000 times your bet.
Phoenix Graveyard Features
Expanding Win Ways
During any normal spin random tombstones can be placed over several spots on the reels. These tombstones will have a number between 2 and 10. Any symbol landing in those tombstones will be split into the number on the frame. This will increase the total number of ways. This can increase the maximum ways up to 1 million.
Bonus symbols are not split when they land in those tombstones.
Grim Reaper Wild
The Grim Reaper wild only appears on reels 3, 4 and 5. And when it appears on the reels it will trigger a free respins feature.
After each spin the Grim Reaper will move one spot to the left, before leaving the reels.
The Grim Reaper will attack all high paying symbols (characters) and phoenix wild symbols it is adjacent to, turning that spot on the reels into a tombstone. These will also stay on the reels as long as the respins continue.
When the Grim Reaper attacks a phoenix, the phoenix will either become a x2 wild or it will move to another spot leaving another phoenix behind.
Any phoenix symbols and bonus symbols will also stay on the reels until the end of the respins.
Free Spins Feature
3, 4 or 5 bonus symbols will award 6, 8 or 10 free spins with 1, 2 or 3 phoenix wild symbols respectively. The phoenix symbols will appear on the same spot as where a bonus symbol was present when you triggered the free spins. If this was already a tombstone spot, the phoenix wild will get a multiplier.
During free spins all phoenix wild symbols will roam around the reels and move to a new spot after each spin.
Tombstones present when the feature was triggered stay on the reels for all free spins and new ones can also randomly appear. These new tombstones will also stay on the reels until the end of the free spins feature.

Verdict
Some players might not like the darker theme on Phoenix Graveyard, but I personally think it works great and looks good.
Also all the features are really amazing. The tombstones that increase the ways up to 1 million are very interesting and also seem to trigger a lot. So it’s not some kind of rare feature.
Then the Grim Reaper respins which adds tombstones and roaming or multiplier wilds is also a great in-game bonus. Which also seems to appear regularly and again, is a lot of fun.
And them we have those free spins. They are a little harder to trigger and 3 bonus symbols only give 6 free spins, which seems low. But that feature, with the right combinations and bonuses, can pack a punch.
I really like Phoenix Graveyard. To be honest, I like a lot of ELK Studio slot games. But this one is a bit above average for me.
