Play’n Go has released a new slot game called Wheel of Mictlan. Mictlan is the Aztec mythology of the underworld. Consisting of 9 levels where the soul needs to cross them within 4 years. All under the watching eye of Mictecacihuatl.
So you might be expecting a very dark themed slot game. Well, it’s not. It is basically a very standard Aztec themed game with colorful masks set within a jungle within pyramids. But Mictecacihuatl is overlooking the reels and when he comes in play, it does make a bit of a dark impact.
The game uses 5 reels which are each 3 symbols high and comes with 10 paylines.
You will find low paying card symbols and medium to high paying colorful masks. Then there are wilds, scatters and bonus symbols on all reels.
Wheel of Mictlan comes with a very big maximum payout of 40.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.

Wild Flip
When 2 or more wild symbols land on the reels, each one will start spinning, giving a 50% chance of turning the entire reel wild.
Bonus Wheel
Bonus symbols can land on all reels and each time a bonus symbol lands, there is a chance the wheel is triggered. Landing 3 or more bonus symbols will guarantee a wheel spin.
The wheel will spin and land of one of the following:
- Multiplier – Receive a multiplier of between x2 and x100, which is applied to all current wins
- Instant Prize – Receive an instant cash prize of between x8 and x200 times bet
- Free Spins – Receive between 5 and 20 free spins, or when triggered within free spins, get between 5 and 2o extra free spins
- Cashpot – Receive a pick 3 bonus awarding one of the 3 jackpot rewards of 1.000, 2.500 or 5.000 times bet
Free Spins Feature
3 or more scatter symbols will award 10 free spins.
During free spins you only need 1 wild to trigger the Wild Flip feature. You can also still trigger the Bonus Wheel. A maximum of 140 free spins can be won.
Verdict
To be honest, I was expecting more from this new slot game.
I think the theme could have been a lot cooler and a lot darker. Especially with the subject chosen. But it’s mainly just another one of those colorful Aztec themed slots.
Then we have the feature. In fact three of them. The Wild Flip is a nice touch, but only really awards something solid if you get at least 3 of them. We have the Wheel Bonus, which is, again something that could have been done better I think. It’s all very basic. And lastly free spins, again, not that interesting. You only need 1 wild now, but 1 wild won’t add anything excising, even if it expands.
Overall it looks like a game with a lot going on, but is basically a pretty basic slot. And the theme does look nice, but it’s something that we know already. And the huge maximum win possibility will attract players, of course. But what’s the real chance of hitting that win?
