The Megaways craze has down died a little in the last 2 or 3 years, but providers still release new Megaways slots from time to time. And one of those providers is Pragmatic Play, that regularly adds a new Megaways slot to their collection. And this time the game is called Captain Kraken Megaways.
It’s a theme that they are pretty familiar with, since they have a bunch of pirates and kraken themed slots, like for instance Release the Kraken Megaways. And as you might suspect, the reels are set on a pirate ship and in the background is there is a body of water, pretty basic and fairly overused theming.
You will find 6 reels. Reels 1 and 6 can be up to 7 symbols high during each spin and the middle reels can be up to 8 symbols high. This setup can give up to a maximum of 200.704 Megaways per spin. There is also a row of symbols on top of the middle reels where an extra symbol is added.
Besides low paying card symbols you will also find medium to high paying ship symbols, characters and the kraken. Wild symbols appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 only. And then there are coin, or money symbols, which can appear on all reels, but not on the top row and special collect symbols which only appear on reel 6. There are no scatters on this game.

Tumbles
Winning combinations are removed from the reels and all symbols fall down. New symbols fall on top and can award another winning combination. The process keeps repeating until no new winning combinations appear.
Money Collection
Money symbols, or coins, can appear on all normal reels and come with a value of between x1 and x25, or one of the jackpot amounts, Minor (40x), Major (200x) and Grand (2.000x).
A special collect symbol can appear on reel 6. When this appears, all money symbols on all reels are instantly collected and paid.
Re-spin Feature
A special re-spin symbol can land on reel 6. If this symbol lands and at least one Money symbol is also present on the reels, it will trigger the re-spin feature.
You are awarded with 3 re-spins where only blank spots and money symbols appear. Each time a new money symbol lands, it is held and the re-spins are reset back to 3.
The top row can now award special modifier symbols, these are not held, but do reset the spins back to 3. But they also award a special bonus.

- Collect Screen – all money symbols on all reels are collected
- Multiply Reel – all money symbols on the specific reel are multiplied between x2 and x100
- Multiplier Screen – all money symbols on all reels are multiplied between x2 to x100

Verdict
To be honest, Captain Kraken Megaways doesn’t really do it for me.
I think the theme is too generic, we’ve seen this before, several times already. And also the gameplay just isn’t that interesting. It’s just another one of those Hold & Re-spin or Hold & Collect slots. But somehow with added Megaways. Which by the way add noting special to the game.
I am sure there are a lot of players that will enjoy this game. The collection bonuses seem to be very popular, still. But for me, this one is a pass.
