Novomatic has released a new online slot game called Gang wars.
A game with, as you might have guessed, a street gang theme, somewhere in what seems to be maybe New York or something? But the setting and even the era isn’t completely clear.
The game uses 5 reels which are each 4 symbols high and uses 25 paylines.
Besides low paying card symbols you will also find high paying gangsters. Then there are also wild symbols on all reels and special mystery symbols. Mystery symbols will all reveal one and the same symbol when appearing. All these symbols can appear stacked on all reels. Scatter symbols only appear on reels 1, 3 and 5 and are the only symbols that can’t appear stacked.
Gang Wars doesn’t state the maximum payout and I am also not able to find the volatility of the game.

Mystery Re-spin
Whenever one or more mystery symbols appear on the reels, instead of revealing their symbol, there is also a chance a free re-spin is triggered.
All mystery symbols are held and the rest of the reels spin once.
After this all mystery symbols are revealed.
Free Spins Feature
3 scatter symbols will award 10 free spins.
When free spins start, the background of the symbols represent the 4 colors of the 4 different gangs.
During free spins only gang members appear and mystery symbols. Each gang member will color the spot it lands on in its color and will also add random multipliers to their total value. Mystery symbols will add random multipliers to random gang members.
The gang member with the biggest territory on the reels is the gang member that will win the free spins. You are awarded with the associated multiplier times your bet at the end of the free spins.
Bonus Buy
You are able to buy free spins for 64, 120 and 160 times your bet. The higher you pay, the bigger the starting and landing multipliers are, it seems. But also the bigger the volatility.
Verdict
Gang Wars isn’t going to set the online slot world a blaze. But I am pretty happy with this game.
I like the base game with the mystery symbols and occasional re-spin. And I think the free spins are fun. It’s not something that hasn’t been done before, but a free spins feature with this mechanism is rare.
I’m not completely sure how much this game can pay. I was not able to find it. I haven’t had any massive wins yet, mainly 100 to 200 times bet maximum. But I am sure the game can go higher, so who knows?
Overall it’s a decent slot game.
