Pragmatic Play has released a new online slot game called Book of Monsters. And as soon as you see that title, you might think, one of those games. Of which there are so many already. But no worries, this is a different game that uses different mechanisms, so let’s see.
They went with one of those funny looking monster looks for this one, very much reminding me of Reactoonz or Reactoonz 2 from Play’n Go. But other games also used this type of theme. Which I’m not bad about, I like these themes.
The game uses 7 reels that are each 7 symbols high and uses cluster pays. 5 or more of the same symbols that are horizontally and/or vertically connected count as a winning combination.
Besides low paying card symbols and high paying monster symbols, you will also find Bonus symbols on all reels. There are no wild symbols.
Book of Monsters comes with a maximum payout of 5.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.

4, 5, 6 and 7 Bonus symbols will award 5, 6, 7 and 8 free spins respectively.
Before free spins start, a random symbol is picked to become the Fat Symbol during free spins. After this you are able to gamble for a better symbol or more free spins, or start the feature. Gambling can mean you lose and you aren’t awarded with a bonus.
During free spins the chosen Fat Symbol starts as a 1×1 symbol which will roam around and land on a random spot. All normal symbols that match the Fat Symbol are collected into a meter.

Verdict
I think Book of Monsters is a fun new cluster pays slot, but I would have named it something different I think.
I get the reference of the “Book of” when the game picks a random normal paying symbols. But other than that, it’s not really a “Book of” slot game.
Instead it comes with a symbol that upgrades into a bigger size, something other games have also done before, like for instance Fat Rabbit by Push Gaming.
But that’s really all I have to say about the name. Overall it’s just a fun game, with a fun theme, which I enjoyed a lot.
