The Green Knight, Oath of Thorns – Overview
In 2021 Play’n Go released a game called The Green Knight and followed that game up in 2023 with Return of the Green Knight. Now in 2025 they have added a third slot in the series called The Green Knight – Oath of Thorns.
The game still uses The Knights of the Round table as the main theme. And uses almost the same type of symbols and mechanisms as the other ones.
You will find 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high and 20 lines.
Besides standard, low paying, card symbols you will also find different, high paying, characters, like for instance Arthur. There are also a wild symbols on all reels, which are some sort of creepy thorn monster. And of course The Green Knight, which counts as the scatter symbol and can also land on all 5 reels.
The Green Knight – Oath of Thorns comes with a big maximum payout of 14.000 times your bet. The original went up to 10.000x and the Return version even 40.000 times bet. The game is also a high volatile slot game.
Features
Wild Multiplier
At random, during any base spin, the meter with multipliers on top of the reels can be activated. When it does, it will land on a random multiplier and all wild symbols appearing on the reels will now have that multiplier. Multipliers can be x2, x5, x10, x25 and x100. It will then also add 1 random wild symbol to the reels. More can land. Any winning combination with at least 1 wild symbol will be multiplied. Multipliers are not accumulated or multiplied when more than 1 of them is used in a winning combination.
Free Spins Feature
3 or more scatter symbols will award 5 free spins.
Each free spin will have an active multiplier. The first, second, third, fourth and fifth spin will have the x2, x5, x10, x25 and x100 multiplier respectively.
- Thorn Spins
2 or more scatter symbols during free spins will trigger Thorn Spins.
The multiplier that was active when triggering Thorn Spins will stay active for 5 free spins. During these free spins a guaranteed 2 or 3 random wild symbols will be added to the reels before each spin.
Extra wild symbols can not land during these spins and also scatters don’t appear during Thorn Spins. When Thorn Spins are done, the normal free spins continue, unless triggered on the x100 multiplier.
Verdict
Play’n Go kept a lot of what made the first and second versions great. The multipliers that can trigger at random during a base spin. And are all awarded during free spins. Even the extra free spins when 2 or more scatters appear, is kept. But they have added the random wilds during Thorn Spins.
I really liked the original and also liked the second version. This third version is also a great addition, but I am questioning if this version is different enough to warrant it. I’m not sure, it’s a bit too much of the same, I think. But it does work very well and it’s just a cool game. So I’m not mad about it
