1001 Mystery Genie Fortunes – Overview
Almost a year ago Play’n Go released a game called Mystery Genie – Fortunes of the Lamp. A game that took some inspiration from Disney’s Aladdin with a female blue genie in a 1001 Arabian nights setting.
Now a year later this game has gotten a sequel called 1001 Mystery Genie Fortunes. With pretty much the same theme and characters and similar gameplay, with some added features.
The game uses 5 reels that are each 4 symbols high and comes with 20 paylines.
Besides standard, low paying, card symbols you will also find different types of characters, which are the high paying symbols. Then we have scatter symbols, which are golden coins, which can appear on all reels. And lastly, the mystery symbols, which play an important part in this game. These can also appear on all reels. Wild symbols can only appear due to mystery symbols.
1001 Mystery Genie Fortunes comes with a very low maximum payout of 1.234 times your bet and is a medium volatile slot game.
Features
Mystery Symbols
Mystery Symbols can land on all reels and appear in both the base game and during free spins. Each Mystery symbol will change into a Mystery Wild a Magic Lamp or any normal paying symbol. All regular symbols will be the same type when revealed.
Mystery Wild
Mystery Wilds can only appear because of Mystery Symbols. A wild can come as a normal wild, or a wild with a x2, x3, x4 or x5 multiplier.
Magic Lamp Re-spins
Magic Lamp symbols can only appear because of Mystery Symbols.
When a lamp symbol appears it will become an expanding wild that will cover the entire reel. And you are also awarded a free re-spin where the wild symbol is held.
If new mystery symbols during the re-spin reveal another Magic Lamp, you will get another re-spin with the new wild symbol held. the earlier one will be removed.
Each time a new expanding wild appears during a re-spin, it will get a bigger multiplier, from x1 all the way to x5. Which is the maximum. A total of 50 re-spins can be won during the same feature.
Mystery Chest
On normal paying symbols you might find key symbols. After each spin these keys are collected into the chest on the left and at random this chest might award one of the four set jackpot amounts, which are worth x5, x20, x100 and x1001 times bet.
Free Spins Feature
3, 4 and 5 scatter symbols will award 8, 12 and 15 free spins respectively.
During free spins, besides keys on normal paying symbols, you can also find locks on regular paying symbols revealed by mystery symbols. These come with values of between 1 and 5 times bet, but are only collected if at least 1 key is present on the reels. Each lock prize is multiplied by the amount of keys.
3, 4 or 5 scatters during free spins will add 3, 5 and 8 extra free spins respectively. Up to a maximum of 50 free spins.
Verdict
That’s a lot of features put into one slot game. But to be honest, it’s still a letdown. And this is mainly because of the maximum payout on this game, which is very low. The original at least went up to 6.000 times bet, this one only 1.234 times bet.
Overall the features and bonuses are fine and somewhat enjoyable. The theme is pretty much the same.
For me, I thought the original game was good, but wasn’t anything spectacular, so why the game needed a sequel, I don’t know. I don’t think it’s because the original game is immensely popular either.
But, as always, check the game out for yourself and let me know what you think. You can play the demo version below, or try the game for real at any trusted Play’n Go casino.
