Gem Crush Overview
It’s time for a new NetEnt slot game release. And this time the game is called Gem Crush.
The theme for this game is literally its name. It’s gems that are being crushed. It’s that simple. You will see the reels set against some kind of stone altar with water going down the sides. And all symbols are gems. It’s a bit in style of Secrets of the Stones or Druid’s Dream.
The game uses 6 reels that are each 8 symbols high and comes with a cluster pays mechanism. Any cluster of 5 or more of the same symbols, horizontally and/or vertically connected, count as a winning combination.
You will also find tumbles, meaning that winning symbols are removed and all remaining symbols fall down, new symbols fall on top, creating the option for another win.
There are a total of 8 normal paying symbols. 4 small and 4 with an edge, in the same colors. Then there are also wild symbols, bonus symbols and a special rainbow symbol which can also appear.
Gem Crush comes with a maximum payout of 4.361 times your bet and is a medium to high volatile slot game.
Gem Crush Features
Random Multipliers
At random, during the base game, a multiplier of x2, x3, x4 or x5 might be activated, multiplying all wins from a bought spin.
Rainbow Gem
When a special Rainbow Gem appears, it will randomly select one type of symbol to upgrade all instances of this symbol into another type of symbol.
Free Spins Feature
3 or more scatter symbols will award 10 free spins. During free spins 4 special features are active.
- Increasing Multiplier – A multiplier will go up by x1 on every second spin and won’t reset
- Colossal Wild – During each spin at least one 2×2 wild symbol will appear
- Rainbow Gem – A total of 4 Rainbow Gems can appear during all free spins. When a symbol is upgraded, it will stay upgraded until the end of the free spins
- XStrike – At random the multiplier might be increased by x1
Bonus Buy
You are able to buy the free spins feature for 70 times your bet.
Verdict
Gem Crush is a fine game. The theme works well and isn’t bad, but maybe a bit dull.
And that’s also how I would like to describe the base game. It’s all a bit dull. Sure you have random multipliers and even the symbol upgrades, but it never seems to get really exciting and wins are pretty low.
The free spins feature makes the game more interesting, especially because of the increasing multiplier and the colossal wild symbols. But again, not too exciting, in my opinion.
I’m not sure why NetEnt doesn’t go all out with these new games. They seem to be lingering in games that look good and have fun gameplay. But never really get exciting.
I still think that a lot of players will enjoy Gem Crush. So be sure to check it out for yourself by playing the demo below, or visiting any top NetEnt casino.
