NetEnt just released a new online slot game called Dragons Playground.
This new game uses a dragon theme, which feels a bit like the dragons from How to Train Your Dragon, protecting a huge pile of gold. It’s a very colorful and fun looking slot game.
The game uses 6 reels that are each 4 symbols high and comes with 406 ways instead of paylines. So symbols pay left to right, starting on the first reel, no matter where symbols are on a reel.
Besides low paying card symbols you will also find different treasures. Wild symbols also appear, but only because of a random feature or because of the Cycle Rounds. Lastly there are scatter symbols, big giant dragon eggs, that appear on all reels.
Dragons Playground comes with a nice maximum payout of 10.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.

Avalanches
Winning combinations are removed from the reels and all remaining symbols fall down into the empty spots. New symbols then fall on top, which can create the option for another win. This keeps happening until no more new winning combinations appear.
Flames and Frames
All regular paying symbols can come with a small flame attached to them. When a symbol with a flame is used in a winning combination it will leave a frame around the spot.
Cycle Rounds
During the base game all spins are played in a cycle of 10. On each 10th spin all frames that are then on the reels will be turned into wild symbols.
Dragon’s Breath
Dragons can randomly add random wild symbols to the reels. This can be during the base spins and during free spins, but never on the 10 spin of a cycle.
Free Spins Feature
3 scatter symbols will award 10 free spins. And 4 more free spins for each extra scatter symbol.
During free spins frames are turned wild after each and every spin instead of on the 10th spin.
3 scatter symbols during free spins will add 5 more free spins and 2 more for each extra scatter.
Verdict
Dragons Playground isn’t the first game that uses these cycles. There have been several of them already. But they are still pretty rare and not all players like this concept.
I think it works pretty well on this game, especially since it’s a 4096 ways slot. Getting a lot of frames, that then turn wild, can really award some big wins.
The free spins feature is a bit of a question for me. I am not sure if I like it or not. I get that the frames now turn wild after each spin, but you don’t have time to collect some good amount of frames within only one spin, even though you can have multiple avalanches. But because the game does come with a big maximum payout, I am sure it can award a lot during free spins.
