If you are familiar with the catalogue of games from Play’n Go, you know they have this long running series of games that started with Book of Dead back in 2016. All these games are, what we call, “Book of” slot games. Originating from the original game from Merkur Gaming called Book of Ra.
The series already has a lot of different titles, including games like Secret of Dead, Ghost of Dead and Pilgrim of Dead. And now there is a new game called Scales of Dead.
Scales of Dead still uses the same Egyptian theme, but now surrounding a cobra snake. Which to be honest, all looks very cool.
The game has 5 reels that are 3 symbols high and comes with 10 lines.
Besides all normal symbols you will also find a special golden tomb symbol, which counts as both wild and scatter.

Three or more scatter symbols will award 8 free spins.
Before free spins start a random normal paying symbol is picked to become a special expanding symbol during free spins.
When 2 or more scatter symbols appear during free spins you will trigger 4 Sandstorm free spins. The expanding symbol will stay the same, but will now get a multiplier of x2, x3 or x4. During Sandstorm free spins 2 or more scatter symbols will add 2 extra free spins, up to a maximum of 30.
Sandstorm free spins are played first, then you return to the normal free spins. More than one Sandstorm trigger can occur during free spins.
Verdict
I thought I’ve seen enough of these “Book of” games, especially from Play’n Go. But to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised.
I really like the way they use the theme. It’s again an Egyptian theme, but symbols are much more colorful and bright. And all snake images and graphics are very cool.
And I also like the free spins feature. It’s pretty much what we expect, expanding symbols. But the way only 2 scatter symbols add more free spins, but now with a random multiplier, is a lot of fun.
I’m sure that players that don’t enjoy “Book of” games, will also not enjoy this one. But for diehard fans, this is another great variation.
