Gloria Invicta – Overview
It seems like it’s been a while since I last reviewed a new Quickspin slot game. Maybe that’s just because they don’t release new games every week, like some other providers.
But here we are with their latest slot release Gloria Invicta.
As the name might suggest, it’s a Roman themed slot game revolving around an army, or commanders as they call them in the game. Gloria Invicta translates to unconquered glory.
The game comes with one of those themes you will recognize. An army of men, stone walls and flags. A Roman battlefield as you might imagine it.
The game uses 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high and comes with 25 paylines.
Besides low paying card symbols and medium paying Roman symbols, there are also high paying commanders. Scatter or Bonus symbols can appear on all reels. And so do wild symbols.
The game comes with tumbling reels, meaning winning symbols are removed from the reels, the remaining symbols fall down into empty spots and new symbols are added to the top. Creating the option for several wins within the same spin. And these tumbles are used for all special features within the slot game.
Gloria Invicta comes with a pretty big maximum payout of 18.143 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.
Features
Wild Commanders
After 2, 4 and 6 tumbles within the same spin, the red, green and blue commander become wild symbols, respectively. These are reset once a new spin starts.
Power Up
The three Commander symbols can become power-upped. Each time 3 commander symbols have been removed, all commanders become power-upped symbols. After 6 commanders have been removed, they become power-upped twice.
A power-upped symbols will lose a stage during a tumble, instead of being removed from the reels. When a symbol is no longer power-upped it will be removed.
Power-up symbols can also be wild, because of the Wild Commanders feature.
Free Spins Feature
3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols will award the bonus, super bonus or ultra bonus respectively.
You are awarded with 10 free spins starting with a x1, x2 or x3 multiplier, depending on the bonus.
Any scatter that appears during free spins will be collected and after enough you are awarded with 2 extra free spins and the multiplier will go up by x2.
During the bonus, power-ups and wild commanders are reset between spin. During super bonus only wild commanders reset between spins and during ultra bonus, no meter resets between spins.
Bonus Buys
For 60x your bet you can buy 3+ scatter symbols, for 240x bet you can buy 4+ scatter symbols.
Verdict
I personally am never the biggest fan of these types of themes. But that’s just personal and to be honest, Quickspin made it look really nice as always.
The gameplay itself is a bit confusing at first. I needed a couple of spins to realize how the features and bonuses worked. But once you do, it’s pretty straightforward. You just want winning tumble after winning tumble too activate as much wilds and power-ups as possible.
But of course, during free spins the game really gets going. And to be honest, it’s pretty cool, but only if you have the 4 or 5 scatter trigger. Because then things don’t reset, which makes for a much more rewarding bonus.
Overall I think Gloria Invicta is a solid new slot game, although I do think it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
