Grand Melee Overview
Thunderkick released a new online slot game called Grand Melee. Which references the melee weapons you most commonly see in various video games. A melee character usually uses something like a bow or gun, so you can attack from a distance.
For this new game Thunderkick used a very colorful theme set in medieval times, or during a game of larping. With two colorful tents next to the reels.
The game uses 6 reels that are each 4 symbols high. And instead of normal paylines, it uses connected lines. As long as the same symbols are connected, they count as a winning line. It’s almost like a ways slot, but a little bit different.
Besides standard card symbols, you will also find all kinds of different colored characters and a golden knight, which is the highest paying symbol. The game doesn’t use any wild symbols, but bonus symbols do appear on all reels. All symbols can appear stacked on all reels.

Sticky Respin Bonus
This bonus will randomly trigger during any base spin. A random normal paying symbol or bonus symbol is picked and will be displayed above the reels.
If you land at least 5 of the randomly picked symbol, the symbols will become sticky and all other symbols respin. As long as more of the picked symbols appear, respins will continue.
Special modifiers symbols can appear during these respins, which will award the following:
- Symbol Upgrade – The randomly picked symbol will be upgraded to a higher paying symbol and all symbols already sticky on the reels will also be changed into this symbol
- Symbol Expansion – This symbol will fill the entire reel it lands on into the picked symbol
- Game Area Expansion – All reels will increase by 1 symbol, up to a maximum of 7 symbols per reel is possible
Free Spins Feature
5 or more bonus symbols will trigger the free spins feature. This might also happen because the bonus symbol is picked during the Sticky Respin Feature.
You will receive the same number of free spins as the number of bonus symbols triggering the feature.
During free spins the Sticky Respin Feature is active during all spins.
Free spins can be retriggered.
Verdict
Every provider has their own favorite mechanisms, like for instance sticky wilds. And Thunderkick is the one that loves sticky respins. A lot of their games use this feature.
But they manage to change it up a bit each and every time. And they seem to have done that again with Grand Melee.
During the base game the respins are random, but during free spins they happen each and every time, which is great. And during these respins you can get some amazing wins, especially when you add those modifiers.
