The original Fruit Shop slot by NetEnt is already over 15 years old and was released back in 2011. After that NetEnt has released several successful and less successful sequels like Fruit Shop Megaways and Fruit Shop Frenzy. Now two years after the last one, we get a sort of reboot with Fruit Shop Grand Re-opening.
Everything players enjoyed about Fruit Shop has been kept. The theme, including all the original symbols. But also the re-spins on wins. But NetEnt has added more interesting bonuses this time.
The game uses 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high and comes with 13 paylines during base spins. These can increase during the re-spins and free spins features.

During all spins, base game and free spins, any winning combination with fruit symbols will trigger free re-spins. Between 2 to 5 cherries and between 3 to 5 other fruit symbols will award between 1 and 5 free re-spins.
Free Spins Features
3 or more scatter symbols will award the free spins feature.

If any free spins feature is triggered during re-spins, the remaining re-spins are added to the number of free spins.

Flavor Meter
The Flavor Meter is active beneath the reels during re-spins and free spins features.
This meter will collect winning combinations and progress between 1 and 5 steps for winnings of 2 or more cherries and 3 or more other combinations.
Every fourth step will increase the general multiplier from x2 to x14 during re-spins and x4 to x75 during free spins features.
But there are also several special bonuses, or modifiers on the Flavor Meter, which will activate at certain points.

Jumper Wilds
During free spins, wild symbols can now also come with a number added to them. When a winning combination uses one of those wilds, it will award the number of steps on the wild on the Flavor Meter.

Verdict
I’m going to say it again, it was always a mystery why the original Fruit Shop was such a popular game. I know it’s probably because of the fact that winning combinations would give you free re-spins, which could go on for a while, but for me that was never enough to make it fun.
With Fruit Shop Grand Re-opening we now get a special meter during the re-spins, but also a free spins feature. Which I think is a great addition to the title.
I really like the mechanism now where each winning combination moves you over the meter and awards added bonuses and multipliers. I think it works very well!
Overall I think Fruit Shop Grand Re-opening is a great new addition to the series. And my personal favorite.
