John Hunter and Galileo’s Secrets – Overview
Pragmatic Play has released a new slot game with one of their main characters, John Hunter. Called John Hunter and Galileo’s Secrets. We’ve already seen several titles from him, such as John Hunter and the Book of Tut Megaways and John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure.
All these games, including this new title, are some versions of “Book of” slot games. But with John Hunter and Galileo’s Secrets they have added some more variety.
As a theme, it’s based around Galileo, the Italian astronomer, is a bit basic to be honest and also has a bit of an old-fashioned look, like the game is from 5 or even 10 years ago.
The game uses 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high and it comes with 10 lines.
Besides standard card symbols you will also find different Galileo inspired symbols, as high paying symbols. Scatter symbols, in the form of books, can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4 only. And on reel 4 you can also get a special super book symbol. More on that later. The game doesn’t come with any wild symbols. But does have mystery symbols, which are also explained below.
Lastly there are also Money Symbols with values of between 1 and 5000 times bet.
John Hunter and Galileo’s Secrets comes with a maximum payout of 5.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.
Features
Mystery Symbols
When Mystery symbols land on a full reel, so not partially, the whole reel will transform in one and the same normal paying symbol, or money symbol. These symbols pay on any reel, they don’t need to start on reel one and don’t need to be adjacent.
Re-spin Feature
6 or more Money Symbols will trigger the re-spin feature.
Only the money symbols stay on the reels and are held. All other spots re-spin and only money symbols can appear. You get 3 re-spins, which reset each time a new symbol lands.
The feature ends when you run out of re-spins or when you fill the entire screen. Filling the entire screen will award an added bonus of 2.000 times bet.
Money symbols can also have free spins or super free spins on them, these are awarded after the Re-spin Feature is played out.
Free Spins Feature
3 scatter symbols will award the free spins feature with 10 free spins. Before free spins start one random normal paying symbol, or the money symbol, is randomly picked to act as the mystery symbol.
There are several levels, Bronze for J, Q, K and A, Silver for the quill, parchment and telescope, Gold for the hourglass, globe and John Hunter and Super when the mystery symbol is picked.
During free spins all mystery symbols will always be nudged to cover the entire reel and will reveal the picked mystery symbols.
Each scatter that appears is collected into a meter and each time you collected 4 of them, you will move up a level, from bronze to silver and so on and get a new mystery symbol connected with that level. You will also receive 2 more free spins.
If you trigger free spins with the super scatter symbol, you will receive free spins on the Super Level with Money Symbols as the mystery symbols. You can not move up the meter during this feature and can also not receive extra free spins.
Bonus Buy
For 80 times bet you can buy regular free spins. For 200 times bet you can buy the Super free spins.
Verdict
At first I thought, I’m not a big fan of this game. But after playing it a little bit, I did enjoy it, a lot.
I like the fact that it’s a “Book of” slot game, but with a twist. It now uses the mystery symbols instead of the symbols itself. And now you can also get those money symbols, which instantly award a Hold and Re-spin feature.
Overall I like the features and mechanisms, but I can do without the theme. That one is just too bland and doesn’t stand out at all. Which is a real shame.
