Back in 2013, yes more than 10 years ago, NetEnt released a game called Space Wars. Which, for the time was a pretty unique game that was also decently popular for a while. And they even released a sequel in 2022 called Space Wars 2 Powerpoints, which I believe didn’t do so well?
Now more than 10 years after the original NetEnt added Megaways and the XXXtreme mechanisms to Space Wars with Space Wars Megaways XXXtreme.
The game kept the original theme and symbols, all funny looking aliens, small and big, with some crystals thrown into the mix. Where the reels are the screen of some sort of alien spaceship.
You will find 6 reels that are between 2 and 7 symbols high during each spin, which can award up to a maximum 117.649 Megaways per spin.
Normal paying symbols only consist of aliens in their small and big form and a red crystal. Then there are also wild symbols which can only appear on reels 2, 3 and 6. All symbols appear stacked on their reels.
Space Wars Megaways XXXtreme comes with a solid maximum payout of 14.400 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.

Verdict
We already seen a couple of older games getting the XXXtreme versions from NetEnt, like Starburst XXXtreme and Twin Spin XXXtreme. And now we have Space Wars XXXtreme.
Overall I think it’s a fine game, but it didn’t blow me aways. Maybe that’s because I was never a huge fan of the original and this one is pretty much the same, with some added Megaways and those XXXtreme spin. Or maybe it’s just because the game doesn’t really offer anything that extreme.
I mean the only extreme is the fact that you can buy a minimum of Megaways. But during normal spins you can already get a big number of ways, so it’s a bit like, OK.
I’m sure a lot of players will enjoy this game. Especially new players that aren’t familiar with the original version and are just now discovering this type of slot. Or avid Megaways players even.
For me it’s a game I might give some spins once in a while, but not one I will be playing over and over.
