Today NetEnt has released a new online slot game, Rome The Golden Age.
As the name implies, Rome The Golden Age uses a classic Roman theme with helmets, tigers and golden coins.
The game comes with different reels than normal. The reels are 3, 4, 5, 4, 3 symbols high and comes with 20 paylines. The game features special wild symbols and scatter symbols appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.
This game is packed with special bonuses and features. I will try to explain them below.
Frame Collection
Whenever a golden coin appears anywhere on the reels (which can also appear stacked) the frame of that symbol is marked with a golden frame.
At random one of those golden frames can be activated. That frame will become wild during the next spin. And this wild will spread and all adjacent golden frames will also become wild.
Increasing Multiplier
On the top left of the reels is a special meter which will fill up to 200. Each golden coin will award between 1 and 4 increments on this meter when it appears on the reels.
When this meter is full the multiplier on the right will increase.
The multiplier will increase in the following steps. x1, x2, x3, x5, x7, x10, x12, x15, x20, x30, x40, x50, x75, x100, x200, x300, x500, x750, x1000.
This multiplier isn’t active during normal spins, but will become active during free spins feature.
Free Spins Feature
If you get all three scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 you will trigger the free spins feature.
All frames that are still active when you trigger the free spins will become golden coins awarding between 0,5 and 50 times your bet.
You will receive 3 free spins. Only coin symbols appear during these free spins. And each time one or more of these coins appear, the spins are reset to 3.
The feature end when no more free spins are left or when you fill the entire screen. If you manage to fill the entire screen, all values are multiplied by x2.
And after this the total winning are multiplied with the multiplier you collected so far during normal play.
Verdict
Rome The Golden Age looks amazing, but also a bit strange. This big reels and only 20 lines. You might expect a ways slot game, which it isn’t.
The Frames Collection feature is very nice. The symbols appear pretty regularly and it’s nice when you have a lot of them when they all turn wild.
The multiplier that you collect is not my favorite. This feels like a way to let you keep playing and playing, just to increase that multiplier. Feels a lot like a couple of Big Time Gaming slots, like for instance Holy Diver.
The free spins feature is nice. It’s one of the Lock ‘N Link bonuses we see a lot these days. But with that twist that you can have a big multiplier. Up to x1000 even, which is massive.
