Sparky and Shortz – Hidden Joules Overview
Back in 2021 Play’n go released a game called Sparky and Shortz. A game that used cute robots as a theme. That game was pretty mediocre. But now they have released a follow-up, Sparky and Shortz – Hidden Joules. Which is a cluster pays slot with a lot more going on. And Play’n Go is known for creating amazing cluster pays games.
The theme for this game still uses the cute robots, but now it seems like they are exploring some kind of ancient planet or civilisation.
The game uses 7 reels that are each 7 symbols high, giving a total of 49 symbols on the grid. And any combination of 5 or more of the same symbols in a cluster, count as winning combination. Symbols in a cluster need to be connected horizontally and/or vertically. Diagonal doesn’t count.
Winning clusters or symbols are removed from the reels, the rest of the symbols fall down and new symbols fall on top, creating the option for another win. This keeps repeating until no new winning combinations appear.
Besides low paying crystal symbols, you will also find 3 different alien symbols. There are also wild symbols on the reels. Regular wilds, but also 4 different special wilds, which I will explain below. The game doesn’t have any scatter or bonus symbols. Features are triggered by collecting special wilds symbols.
Sparky and Shortz – Hidden Joules comes with a maximum payout of 6.000 times your bet and is a medium to high volatile slot game.

Win Multiplier
When you get clusters that have a 2×2, 4×1 or 1×4 configuration, these symbols will change into mega symbols. Each of these Mega Symbols will increase a general multiplier by x1. The multiplier can grow up to a maximum of x25.
Boost Meter
On the left of the grid you will find the Boost Meter. All winning symbols that are removed from the grid are added to this meter. And after certain symbols are collected the meter will fill up, going from +2 to +3, +4 and finally +5.
The Boost Meter determines by how much the multiplier will grow because of Mega Symbols, as explained above.
This Boost Meter will reset between each spin.
Special Wild Symbols
Like I mentioned before, the game comes with a normal wild symbol, but also with 4 special wild symbols.
When one or more of these special wild symbols are used in a cluster, it will shock the robot (Sparky) on the right and this will return with a special feature. These features are:
- Adding Mega symbols
- Removing all crystal symbols
- Adding random standard wild symbols
- Destroying a pattern of symbols or adding a pattern of symbols
Sparky Wild
When Sparky is hit with 4 special wild symbols it will be charged. You can see this because the blades on his back will light up.
When Sparky is charged it will add a random Sparky Wild to the grid, this is a 2×2 wild symbol.
Verdict
Play’n Go is, in my opinion, the master of these cluster slots. Games like Reactoonz 2, Cash of Command and Viking Runecraft Apocalypse are just a few.
This new Sparky and Shortz game fits perfectly into that catalogue of games.
They all work the same, get enough winning combination to trigger all sorts of bonuses and features. And the goal is to keep going and going and rack up big wins in the process.
I like these games a lot, they can be a bit frustrating when they just don’t trigger, but when they do it’s always exciting to watch.
The first game with these robot characters wasn’t for me, in fact I thought is was a boring game. But this Hidden Joules version is amazing and a lot of fun.
