Tiny Toads – Overview
Pragmatic Play has released a new online slot game called Tiny Toads. Among all the Christmas themed games it’s a game that comes with a frog theme.
But somehow the game looks like it’s been released years ago. I guess on purpose, but the game looks old. I have no idea why?
Reels are set against a blue pond with three colored toads on top of the reels.
You will find 5 reels that are each 4 symbols high and it comes with 50 lines.
Besides low paying card symbols you will also find medium to high paying symbols that you might find in a pond or lake. Like an alligator and a log of wood. Then there are wild symbols, which appear on all reels except the first reel. And last we have Firefly symbols in the colors of the toads on top, that land on all 5 reels.
Tiny Toads comes with a maximum payout of 4.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.
Features
Fireflies
During normal spins, purple, red and green fireflies can appear on all reels. When it appears, it is eaten by the same colored toad and the toad will grow. At random one, two or all three toads can then activate, which will trigger the free spins feature.
Each colored toad comes with it’s own modifier:
- Purple – Each Purple Firefly that hits reveals a money award of between x1 and x10, or 1 or 2 extra free spins. When this color is active, a random multiplier of x2, x3 or x5 might be revealed during any spin.
- Red – Modifier – All Fireflies are now Golden, revealing a money award of between x1 and x10, or a letter from one of the 4 jackpot amounts. When all letters of a specific jackpot are collected, the jackpot is instantly awarded and the word resets.
- Green – The reels are now 6 symbols high and the number of paylines is now 100. Any wild symbol that partially appears on a reel, will nudge and fill the entire reel.
Free Spins Feature
As I mention above, when a toad activates, you are awarded free spins.
Only purple will award 5 free spins. Only Green awards 5 free spins. A combination of purple and green also award 5 free spins.
Getting only red, red and purple, red and green or all three colors at the same time will award 10 free spins.
Depending which colors are active also determines which color fireflies can appear.
Bonus Buy
For 100 times bet you can buy free spins with 1, 2 or 3 colors, this is at random. For 400 times bet you will buy free spins with all three colors active.
Verdict
To be honest, the features of this new game, aren’t new. There are several slot games that use this type of mechanism. Where symbols land, will fill a pot, or symbol and will trigger free spins, with the respective modifier, or several modifiers at random.
I believe Aristocrat was one of the first providers that brought this in land-based casinos. And I think there are also games online from, for instance SG Interactive, that also do this.
Which is fine, of course. But I am just saying.
I personally am never a fan of games where features trigger at random, at least not all features. I prefer a special bonus symbol or just a plain old scatter. But that’s personal.
Overall Tiny Toads is an OK game. But nothing special.
It looks like a game from the early 2000’s and also comes with a lower maximum payout than standard on Pragmatic Play slots, which is 4.000 instead of 5.000 times bet.
I’m not really sure what else to say. It’s not a bad game, but it’s also a bit of a throwaway game. I think it’s not one that you keep coming back to.
