Adventures Beyond Wonderland – Magical Maze Overview
It’s time for a new release from one of my favorite software providers, Quickspin.
This time they went to a pretty familiar theme, Alice in Wonderland. A theme that has been used for online slot games for years and always seems to work. The game is called Adventures Beyond Wonderland – Magical Maze. A mouth full.
As you might have guessed, the game is very colorful, where the “reels” are set against a lush green field with a castle in the back.
Adventures Beyond Wonderland doesn’t use reels. It uses a spiral of symbols. A spiral of 25 symbols to be exact.
Winning combinations consist of 3 or more of the same symbols, that are horizontally or vertically connected. And winning symbols are removed from the spiral, pushing in new symbols. It’s something we’ve also seen on Finn and the Swirly Spin by NetEnt.
Wild symbols can only appear because of winning combinations, more about that below. And each game always starts with a white rabbit at the end of the spiral, which is the bonus symbol and needs to reach the end to trigger free spins.
Adventures Beyond Wonderland – Magical Maze comes with a small maximum payout of only 876 times bet and is a medium volatile slot game.
Features
Wild Symbols and Power Glyphs
When you get a winning combination of 3 or more of the same low paying symbols, a wild symbol will be left in one of the spaces.
Get a winning combination of 3 or more medium or high paying symbols will leave behind a Power Glyph symbol.
Wild symbols count as all symbols except the white rabbit and Power Glyphs. Power Glyph symbols count as all symbols except the white rabbit.
Power-up and Power-up Stack
At the start of each spin a wheel with 12 spots is filled with random Power-ups. Each Power Glyph symbol collected will activate one of these power-ups. You can activate more than one and these power-ups come into play after no more winning combinations appear.
These power-ups will give the following modifiers:
- Walter Wilds – Adds between 3 and 5 random wild symbols to the spiral.
- Queen of Hearts – Removes one column of symbols and leaves behind a Power Glyph in the middle
- Cheshire Cat – Picks one random low paying symbol type and transforms them all into a higher paying symbol
- Mad Hatter – All symbols are shuffled within the spiral, except the White Rabbit
Magical Maze Free Spins
When the White Rabbit reached the end of the spiral, to the rabbit hole, free spins are triggered.
A wheel will spin and award between 6 and 8 free spins. And will also land on one of three special worlds, or bonuses. During free spins this power-up appears more often on the Power-up Stack and also is more powerful than normal.
- Queen of Hearts – Removes two columns of symbols and leaves behind Power Glyphs in the middle
- Cheshire Cat – Picks two random low paying symbol types and transforms them all into a higher paying symbol
- Mad Hatter – All symbols are shuffled within the spiral, except the White Rabbit, but the outcome is more profitable than usual
If the White Rabbit reaches the end of the spiral during free spins you are awarded with between 1 and 5 extra free spins and might also be transferred into another world than the one you are now in.

Verdict
I always like the Alice in Wonderland theme. It somehow always works. Games like The Red Queen and Plunderland, just look nice. And the bonuses always seem to match the theme.
Adventures Beyond Wonderland – Magical Maze is no different. Although I do think that name is a bit too long.
But I also have to say, although the game offers a lot of base game bonuses and a free spins feature with even more powerful bonuses. It never got really exciting for me. It;s fine and for a while fun. But because of the low maximum win you are never on the edge of your seat waiting for that huge win. You just watch as bonus after bonus, after bonus keeps awarding small rewards, which will add up to a medium one.
I wish the game was more volatile and had a higher maximum win. For me. But I also understand that not all slot games can be for the die-hard slot players and you need some fun, casual ones as well. And that’s more what this game is. A fun, very colorful slot game with a lot of bonuses, for casual players.
