Army of Ares – Overview
Hacksaw Gaming has just released another new slot game. And did we recently have Spear of Athena, we now have Army of Ares.
If you didn’t know Athena and Ares are in fact sister and brother and both gods of war. But where Athena is more a strategist, Ares is the violent, aggressive one. Hence he is also the god of violence.
The game comes with a very cool looking comic look where Ares stands muscular and strong next to the reels and his army is present on the left.
The game uses 5 reels that are 4 symbols high and comes with 14 paylines.
Besides low paying card symbols and medium to high paying themed symbols, you will also find wilds and scatter symbols on all reels. There is also a special Wrath symbol that can also appear on each reel and acts as an expanding wild, more on those below.
Army of Ares comes with a big maximum payout of 15.000 times your bet and is a high volatile slot game.
Features
Wrath Reels
When a Wrath symbol lands on a reel it will expand and becomes a Wrath reel, which is in fact a wild reel. This wild reel will also come with a random multiplier of between x2 and x300. Only one Wrath symbol can appear on a reel.
If more than one wild reel is used in a winning combination, the multipliers are added together.
Each Wrath reel will also add between 0 and 5 random wilds on random positions on the other reels.
Free Spins Features
3 or more scatter symbols will trigger a free spins feature. Depending on the number of scatters that triggered the feature, you will play a different free spins feature.
- Fear and Flame – 3 scatter symbols – 10 free spins with the same features as the base game, but any wilds added by Wrath Reels can now come with a random multiplier of between x2 and x100.
- Wrath and Ruin – 4 scatter symbols – will award 3 re-spins. During re-spins only blank spots and Discs or Horses appear. Each time a Disc or Horse appears, the re-spins are reset back to 3. Above each reel you will find a multiplier starting at x1. Each Disc, which comes in different types, will add multipliers or multiply multiplier above the reel it appears, or to all multipliers above all reels. A special Battle Horse can also land. When this lands, that reel is activated and after all re-spins are done, it will award a random multiplier of between x2 and x20, which will aply to the total collected multiplier of that specific reel. When you run out of re-spins all multipliers are added together and multiplied by your bet.
- Ares Ascends – 5 scatter symbols – the same feature as Wrath and Ruin, but the first spin will guarantee a full screen of discs that also includes one Battle Horse.
Bonus Buy
Army of Ares offers several bonus buy options. For 3x the bet you can activate a 5 times higher chance of triggering the bonus. 60x the bet will guarantee you to land at least 1 Wrath symbol. For 100x the bet you can buy Fear and Flame and for 200x the bet you can buy Wrath and Ruin. Ares Ascends isn’t available as a bonus buy.
Verdict
I love Greek mythology and also love it when they use it as a theme. And just like Spear of Athena, Army of Ares’s theme looks amazing and works very well with all the features.
The features are also a lot of fun. Expanding and random wilds with multiplier of up to x300 can instantly award a huge win. And as with most Hacksaw Gaming slots these days, three different bonuses are available. Where on Army of Ares, the first bonus is totally different from the other two. Normally they just improve on each other.
Of course the bonuses with 4 and 5 scatters are like their Chaos Crew slots. Which are popular games, so I understand they use that bonus. But, personally I wish they improves on the normal free spins bonus you get with 3 scatters. Although I do like them all.
Army of Ares is another well done title by Hacksaw Gaming. For me this provider is really on a roll and is releasing hit after hit.
