NetEnt released 101 Candles in September  of 2023 and picked a very colorful candy/food theme for this game, a lot like for instance Cupcakes.

The game uses 6 reels that are each 7 symbols high and uses cluster pays. Meaning that 5 or more of the same symbols, horizontally and or vertically connected, count as a winning combination. And on top of that NetEnt brought back their Avalanche feature. Which means that all winning symbols are removed and the rest of the symbols fall down. New symbols fall on top, creating the option for another win.

Besides normal candies and wrapped candies there is also a gumball machine, which acts as a scatter symbol. There are also wild symbols, but these come into play because of the Wild Conveyor Belt feature.

Wild Conveyor Feature

Above the reels you will find a conveyor belt with wild symbols. Each of these wild symbols comes with a multiplier of between x2 and x101.

During each avalanche, the leftmost wild symbols will move onto the reels into a random spot. All other wilds on the conveyor belt will move to the left and a new one is added to the right, most of the time a new wild will have a bigger multiplier.

During the base game the conveyor belt will reset after no more avalanches happen.

Feature Coins Symbols

After an avalanche a Feature Coin can appear on the reels. Each coin comes with its own feature. After the feature us triggered the coin is removed from the reels.

• Upgrade – will increase all multipliers on the conveyor belt by x1
• Destroy – will remove 5 of the 6 wild symbols from the conveyor belt
• Scramble – will shuffle all wilds on the conveyor belt
• Transform – will pick a random normal paying symbol and will change all these instances into another normal paying symbol

Free spins feature

3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 scatter symbols will award 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 free spins respectively.

During free spins the Conveyor Belt only resets once at the start of the free spins.

It also seems, but is not listed on the paytable, that Feature Coins appear a lot more often.

Verdict

101 Candies is a low volatile slot game that doesn’t initially feel like a NetEnt release.

The features are well done and so is free spins, it comes over as pretty unique.

Because this is a low volatile slot game, it’s not really for me. Too many low winnings and very rarely a big of even huge won. But it’s great that NetEnt also releases low volatile games. For more casual and new players.
