Starburst Galaxy – Overview

In November 2024 NetEnt released Starburst Galaxy.

Starburst is probably one of the most recognizable online slot games. And definitively NetEnt’s most well-known slot game ever. There is the original Starburst, but also Starburst XXXtreme.

Starburst Galaxy is a cluster pays slot. But symbols need to fall in line to count as a winning combination. 3 or more of the same symbols in a line, horizontally or vertically connected, count as a winning combination. And you will also find the well-known avalanche feature. Meaning that winning symbols are removed, all remaining symbols fall down into empty spots and new symbols fall on top. Creating option for consecutive wins within the same bought spin.

You will find 5 reels that are each 5 symbols high. And all the known symbols are present again, gems, sevens and bars. There are more, special symbols, like for instance scatters, which are explained below.

Wild Symbols

When a winning combination, that doesn’t contain a wild symbols, is removed, it will leave behind a wild symbol.

Feature Generator

During the base game, all winning symbols that are removed from the reels will fill the balls on the left of the reels. Called the Feature Generator. Once you fill one of the balls, after all winning avalanches are complete, a random feature is triggered.

• Destroy – removes 1 or more random symbols of the same type from the reels
• Random Wilds – adds between 3 and 9 random wild symbols to the reels
• Expanding Wilds – all wild symbols on the reels will vertically stretch out to 3 wild symbols
• Line Transform – an entire row or reel will change into one and the same symbol, which can also be a wild
• Upgrade – will upgrade 1 or more of the same randomly picked symbols into a higher paying symbol

Galaxy Star Feature and Galaxy Meter

The Galaxy Star feature is activated when the fifth feature on the Feature Generator is filled and awarded.

The reels will now expand to 7×7 big and a colossal wild of x3x symbols big is randomly placed on the reels. After all wins are paid, all winning symbols are removed and between 4 and 8 normal random wild symbols will be added.

When there are no more winning combination, all features still left on the Feature Generator are activated.

Once the 3×3 wild symbol is placed onto the reels, the Galaxy Meter is also activated. Each winning combination is added to this meter and once you have collected 50 symbols, the Galaxy Star Feature is activated again. It can keep activating one after another, as long as you manage to collect 50 winning symbols each time.

Mega Star Feature and Multiplier Collect Meter

If 3 scatters appear on the reels during the same spin, you are awarded the Mega Star Feature.

After all avalanches are done, a 2×2 wild symbol is added to the reels, where there are no wild symbols already. After you are paid your win, the wild will be removed and now award between 2 and 5 random wilds.

Scatters might come with a random multiplier of between x2 and x25. These multipliers are collected into the Multiplier Collect Meter, which apply to all winning combinations until the end of the bonus.

Bonus Buy (Elevate Feature)

You are able to buy different bonuses and boosts on Starburst Galaxy.

• Bonus Boost – 3 times your bet – increases the chance of reaching the Galaxy Star.
• Mega Star – 10 times your bet – activates the Mega Star Feature. One main game spin is guaranteed to have 3 scatters.
• Boosted Mega Star – 50 times your bet – activates the Mega Star and the Multiplier Collect Meter. When the feature is activated, 1 main game spin is guaranteed to have 3 scatters to activate the Mega Star. At least 2 scatters will have multipliers.
• Galaxy Star – 100 times your bet – guarantees reaching the Galaxy Star.
• Galaxy Star Bonanza – 500 times your bet – activates the Galaxy Star with 5 active features in the Feature Generator and a random multiplier of between x2 to x75.

Verdict

Starburst Galaxy comes with a lot of features and might look very intimidating. But once you start playing, it all is pretty easy to get.

And I love this version. It still uses the same theme as the original Starburst, but adds so much more.

Add the the maximum win, the bonus buy options and all the features and modifiers and you get an amazing game. Definitely worth a try!
