Finn and the Dragon Tales – Overview

Back in 2017 NetEnt released a game called Finn and the Swirly Spin and after this there have been other sequels, like for instance Finn and the Candy Spin.

Now in 2025 they have released another slot game within the series called Finn and the Dragon Tales. As the name suggests, this time Finn is in a dragon realm. With colorful stones, a lot of dragons and a cool, fantasy looking background.

As with the other games, the screen fills up with a total of 25 symbols into a spiral. You have a winning combination when three or more of the same symbols appear on a horizontal or vertical line. Winning symbols will be removed from play and new symbols will spiral onto the screen.

The bottom left most symbol, the end of the spiral, will always feature a key. This key will spin further into the middle, each time a win occurs. When the key reaches the middle couple of spots of the spiral the free spins feature is triggered, which will be explained below.

Wild Stars

During base spins, a winning combination of 3 or more of the same symbols, without a wild symbol, will leave behind a wild symbol when symbols are removed. A 3-of-a-kind will leave behind a wild symbol, a 4-of-a-kind will leave behind wild symbol with a x2 multiplier.

Dragon Feature

When you get a winning combination of 5-of-a-kind, after winning symbols are removed, a dragon symbol is placed into the middle spot with a x1, x2 or x5 multiplier.

All symbols matching the color of the dragon will transform into one and the same colored symbol and will then pay as a scatter pays, no matter where symbols are on the reels.

After this between 2 and 4 random wild symbols are placed onto the screen and the game continues as normal.

Free Spins Feature

When the Key reached the middle spots of the spiral it can land on a Bronze, Silver or Golden spot. This will trigger free spins.

• Bronze awards 5 free spins with a Green Dragon
• Silver awards 8 free spins with a Blue Dragon
• Gold awards 10 free spins with a Red Dragon

The  Dragon is placed in the center of the spiral.

During free spins random symbols in the same color as the dragon fall onto the reels and then change into one and the same colored symbol. And these symbols pay as a scatter win.

After this random rocks on the spiral will be destroyed and can leave behind a treasure chest. These chests can have the following rewards:

• Multiplier – reveals a value of x1, x2, x5, or x10, these are added together and this multiplier is applied to the current free spin
• Cash Prize – awards a reward of between 0,25x and 1x bet

Verdict

This game features a lot of what players like about these “Finn” slots. The avalanches and the random wilds. But now adds a sort of collection bonus during free spins.

It’s a pretty fun game, but still a game that seems to be pointed towards a specific type of players. I don’t see die hard slot players playing this game to be honest. Also because, although the maximum payout is a lot bigger that the Candy Spin version, it’s still not that big.

But overall the game looks good, comes with some unique mechanisms and I think there are players that will enjoy this game a lot.
