Mermaids – Overview

In july 2024 NetEnt released a game called Mermaids.

Of course this game uses mermaids as their theme. And the fun, sweet, beautiful mermaids. Not the mermaids we know from old tales where they lure men into their death. So a very colorful, sweet looking game with three different mermaids. All with an underwater background.

The game uses 5 reels that are each 3 symbols high and comes with 20 lines.

Besides standard, low paying, card symbols you will also find 4 different mermaids and wild symbols. There are 4 different colored wild symbols. They all count the same, but are used to fill progress bars on top of the game.

Progress bars

Above the reels there are three different progress bars or rings that need to be filled. Each time a wild symbol appears in the same color as one of the rings, it will add 1 to this progress. Fill a ring, or bar in a certain color and you will trigger one of the following bonuses.

Picker Bonus

This is the purple progress bar and this one starts with a progress of 10. When you reach 15 you will trigger the Picker Bonus.

You get 3 picks and each pick will reveal a win between x2 and x50, Wild Spins and/or Mermaid Spins.

Wild Spins

This is the green progress bar and this one starts with a progress of 10. When you reach 30 you will trigger the Wild Spins.

You are awarded 10 free spins with between 2 and 6 random wilds during each spin.

Mermaid Spins

This is the white progress bar and this one starts with a progress of 10. When you reach 60 you will trigger the Mermaid Spins.

You are awarded 10 free spins with between 2 and 6 random wild symbols during each spin. But also these spins only feature the high paying mermaid symbols.

Verdict

Mermaids isn’t the best NetEnt slot out there. I think the only people that will love this game are fans of mermaids.

The bonuses are nothing new and somehow the collecting wilds to trigger the bonus, becomes tedious after a while. And the bonuses are nothing really special or exciting.

Especially since the maximum win on Mermaids is only 1.974 times bet. Even though it’s a high volatile game. This doesn’t match up in my opinion.

For me Mermaids is a very good looking game, but the features and bonuses are just not that interesting.
